Gears of War: E-Day was released on October 6, 2026, and is the sixth main entry in the Gears of War franchise. The Coalition developed the game, and Xbox Game Studios is the publisher.
E-Day is set on the planet Sera, 14 years before the first Gears of War game, shortly after the Pendulum Wars ended. Players witness Emergence Day, the day the Locust burst out of the ground. Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago are still young here.
The game runs on Unreal Engine 5 and was developed together with People Can Fly. Microsoft promises a 4K, 60 fps campaign with ray tracing, while multiplayer can run at up to 120 fps.
Platforms and Game Pass for Gears of War: E-Day
Gears of War: E-Day is available on Xbox Series X|S and on PC through the Microsoft Store or Steam. It can also be played through Xbox Cloud Gaming. Digital purchases of the Xbox version use Xbox Play Anywhere, so progress and achievements are shared between console and PC.
The game has been included in Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass since launch day. It launched worldwide at 3:00 p.m. UTC, which is 10:00 p.m. WIB (Western Indonesia Time). Owners of the Premium and Collector’s Editions could start playing early, on October 1. Pre-install opened on September 29.
The PS5 version has been canceled. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma announced the decision at the Xbox Games Showcase on June 7, 2026. The game had previously received an age rating for PS5. For now, Microsoft describes E-Day as an Xbox exclusive.
The Standard Edition costs $69.99, while the Premium Edition costs $99 and includes about 5 days of early access. PC players need 115 GB of storage space.
Gameplay and Reviews of Gears of War: E-Day
Players can play solo, in split-screen co-op, or online with up to four people. Critics have praised the Horde Siege mode.
The multiplayer control scheme has changed. The A button is now used for taking cover, clicking the left stick sprints, and the Y button handles jumping and vaulting. This is the biggest change since Gears of War 3. The developers also rebuilt the movement system from scratch.
Early reviews are mostly positive. On Metacritic, the Xbox Series X|S version has a score of 87 percent based on 53 reviews, while the PC version has 84 percent based on 27 reviews. Critics complained about the pacing of the semi-open levels, the boss fights, and the mechanics that were removed. These scores may change as more reviews come in.
