Mobile Legends Lane System and Hero Roles in Every Position

Learn how the Mobile Legends lane system works, from the EXP Lane, Gold Lane, Mid Lane, and Jungle to the Roamer, with hero recommendations and early game strategies.

The Mobile Legends lane system shapes the game from the first minute. Each player takes a set position in the Land of Dawn, and that position affects how much gold and experience they earn and what role they play in team fights.

Many players treat lanes as nothing more than positions to memorize. In fact, lanes are part of macro gameplay, which is how a team manages tempo, rotations, and resources. Teams that understand what each lane does find it easier to gain an edge in the early game.

The map has three main lanes: the EXP Lane, the Gold Lane, and the Mid Lane. Two other roles move outside the lanes: the Jungle and the Roamer. Wins come from all five positions working together, not from one player’s mechanics alone.

Positions and Hero Roles in Each Lane

The EXP Lane gives more experience so heroes level up faster. This position is usually filled by a fighter or a tank. EXP Lane players defend the turret, fight one-on-one, and hold off enemy pressure.

The Gold Lane gives more gold from minions. This lane belongs to marksmen, who need to complete their core items quickly. As a result, the marksman becomes the biggest source of damage from the mid game through the late game.

The Mid Lane is the center of the fighting and the starting point for rotations to other lanes. Mages or assassins play here. They deal area damage and provide crowd control in team fights.

The Jungle is the forest area between the main lanes. The jungler, usually an assassin, secures buffs, takes the turtle and the lord, ganks, and sets the tempo. The Roamer is not tied to any one lane. This tank hero moves around the map, helps with rotations, sets up vision, and starts fights.

Here are hero recommendations for each position.

PositionHero TypeRecommended Heroes
EXP LaneFighter, TankYu Zhong, Benedetta, Esmeralda, Lapu-Lapu
Gold LaneMarksmanBeatrix, Melissa, Lesley, Brody, Claude
Mid LaneMage, AssassinValentina, Pharsa, Yve, Lylia, Lunox

RoamerTankTigreal, Mathilda, Lolita, Khufra, Atlas, Minotaur

Choose a hero based on the lane and your team composition. A strong hero may not fit if your team lacks a tank or damage.

Early Game Strategy for Each Position

EXP Lane players should put defense first and control the laning area. Avoid dying so your experience gain isn’t interrupted. Land last hits on minions to get ahead of your opponent in level.

Gold Lane players should focus on clearing minions and stay away from unnecessary early duels. Don’t miss the gold from the cannon minion, since it speeds up your core item purchases.

Mid laners need to watch for enemy ganks. Clear the minion wave first, then rotate to the EXP Lane or Gold Lane to add pressure. Mid laners should also work closely with the jungler and the roamer.

The jungler secures the main buffs, then takes the crabs. After that, the jungler helps any lane under pressure and prepares to contest the turtle and join team fights. The roamer escorts the jungler or the mid laner, sets up vision from the bushes, and starts fights when an opening appears. Clear communication and fast rotations keep the Mobile Legends lane system running according to the team’s plan.
